Dr. Jonathan A. Marcellus is a distinguished professional, business owner, and community leader passionate about education, children, leadership, human development, and economic development. Born in Haiti and immigrating to the United States in 1990, Dr. Marcellus’ journey reflects the values of hard work, perseverance, and the pursuit of the American Dream.
Dr. Marcellus completed his high school studies at Central High School in Newark, New Jersey, in 1991. He began his higher education pursuit at Union County College (UCC), in Cranford, New Jersey majoring in business and computer information systems, and later transferred to Essex County College (ECC) in Newark, New Jersey majoring in Computer Information Systems during the early 1990s. Subsequently, he left ECC without a degree. Meanwhile he got married and started a family. A few years later, he went back to school, enrolling at Fairleigh Dickinson University’s International School of Tourism and Hospitality Management program where he received both a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree with honors (Cum Laude) in individualized studies with a concentration in Hospitality Management, and a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Hospitality Management. He began a prospective Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree from Stockton University during the summer of 2004, but he did not complete it. He later earned a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) degree and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Management, specializing in Leadership and Organizational Change, from Walden University. Additionally, Dr. Marcellus holds a Master of Science in Taxation (M.S.T.) degree from the University of New Haven, and a certificate in Hospitality Management from Atlantic Cape Community College (ACCC).
Dr. Marcellus has contributed two books to the academic and professional community as a published author and scholar-practitioner. His books are titled respectively “The Pursuit of the American Dream: in Hope and in Faith” and “The Essentiality of Educational Leadership and its Relationship with Business”. He is also an academic researcher who has published a study on “Employee Recognition in the East Coast Casinos”. His expertise spans tax preparation, accounting, leadership, and organizational change, which he applies as the CEO, Founder, and President of Marcellus Integrity Multi Services, LLC, a tax preparation, accounting and business consulting service firm based in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Prior to becoming the founder and CEO of his own firm, he began his career in the hospitality industry as a dishwasher in a hotel in North Jersey, a pantry cook, and a waiter at different catering and restaurant businesses in Essex county, North Jersey. Then, he moved to Atlantic County and started working in the casinos in Atlantic City first as a security officer, and as a slot attendant. Thereafter, because of his hard work ethics, he was promoted to housekeeping supervisor, and then became food and beverage supervisor, room service supervisor, supervisor minibars, and restaurant shift manager at several other casinos.
In addition to his professional success, Dr. Marcellus is a board member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Pleasantville, New Jersey, and a tireless advocate for economic opportunity and community development. Moreover, he has been a guest lecturer, academic presenter, and guest speaker at several colleges and universities including Stockton University, Walden University and Hudson County College. He is also a devoted husband and father of two sons having been married to his lovely wife Florise for 28 years.
Dr. Marcellus is a candidate for the Atlantic County Commissioner District 4, aiming to continue his mission of building stronger, more inclusive communities.” In addition to fighting to create strong economic opportunities for all in his community, and promoting inclusivity and equality for all, he plans to promote and focus on a great education for every child, and strong safety and security for all residents of Atlantic County. He is running for Atlantic County Commissioner District 4 because in part he wants to give back to the community that welcomed him and supported him in all including raising his own family.
